Your partners, your worlds, your lore — kept to yourself.

Tera keeps the relationships you have with characters who do not exist — the partner, the world they came from, the lore you wrote at 3am, the day you started counting from. It is offline first and yours alone: no account, no sync, no server that has ever seen a word of it.

Nothing in Tera opens a connection of its own. Conversations run through whichever provider you bring, on your key — that request is yours, not the app's.

Why AGPL-3.0-only?

Tera is AGPL because the things people keep in it — partners, worlds, years of writing — are personal in a way a note app is not. I have seen paid character-manager apps, and I would rather not hand someone a free MIT codebase they can close and sell. AGPL means anyone who builds on Tera has to keep it open too.

Characters can leave the app now, and a file opens when you tap it.

Settings → Characters → Transfer writes a .dexpack that other character apps can read, and reads theirs. Nothing an incoming file carries is thrown away — a field Tera has no column for is written into the partner's description as a labelled line.
.trbz and .dexpack are registered with Android, so tapping one in a file manager, or sharing one to Tera, lands in the right screen.
An icon at last: two flowers grown into each other on crossing stems, drawn as vector paths, with a monochrome layer for Android 13 themed icons.
Minimum Android version is now 12, in line with the rest of the family.

Coming from 0.3.0 or earlier? One manual step.

The package name changed — app.tera.auriel became app.auriel.tera — and Android has no supported way to change that in place. 0.4.0 installs beside your old Tera rather than over it. Export a .trbz from the old one, install this, import it, then uninstall the old app. This is also the first signed release, which is the other reason it cannot install over an unsigned build. From here every release updates normally.

Features

What it does

Your constellation

Partners with a species, pronouns, an age, a relationship type and a face. Search is fuzzy by default and takes a regular expression if you wrap it in slashes.

Journeys and milestones

Count the days since you started. Months clear as they pass, and milestones sit ahead of you from one month out to ten years.

Lore that survives the import

Bring in Markdown, plain text or a PDF. Keep it as one entry or split it at every heading — a 34,000-word document becomes chapters, attached to a partner and a world.

Messages, on your key

Conversations run through whichever provider you bring — the system prompt is written from the partner's own profile, and you can edit it, set the temperature, and see what each reply cost you.
